What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

In Canada, nearly one-third of the population lacks dental insurance, leaving many families unable to access the care they need due to cost.

Launched by the Government of Canada in late 2023, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a public program designed to reduce the financial barriers that keep many Canadians from getting the dental treatment they need.

Poor dental health doesn’t just give you bad breath and cavities. Lack of regular dental care can lead to a host of other health problems, such as:

• Cardiovascular Disease
• Respiratory Infections
• Diabetes
• Pregnancy Complications
• Dementia & Cognitive Decline
• Osteoporosis

At Dental Station, we believe everyone should have access to quality dental care, regardless of their income or insurance status. That’s why we’re committed to helping our patients understand and access the CDCP.

By participating in this plan, you can access a wide range of oral health treatments at Dental Station and ensure the aesthetics and functionality of your unique smile!

Who Can Apply for the CDCP?

Applications are now open for children under 18, adults aged 18 to 34, adults aged 55 and over, and adults aged 35 to 54 with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate.

To qualify, applicants must:

• Live in Canada and be a resident for tax purposes
• Has no access to private dental insurance
• Have filed income taxes for the previous year (you and your spouse, if pplicable)
• Have an adjusted family net income under $90,000
• What Services Are Covered?
• Once approved, you can receive coverage for services such as:
• Routine cleanings, exams, X-rays, and fluoride treatments
• Fillings, root canals, extractions, and oral surgery
• Sedation and anesthesia when necessary
• Dentures and some orthodontic services (pre-approval required)

How Much Coverage Can You Receive?

Coverage under the CDCP is income-based and is calculated by your adjusted family income based on your previous year’s tax return.

Less than $70,000 – 100%

$70,000 – $79,999 – 60%

$80,000 – $89,999 – 40%

$90,000 and up – Not eligible

You may still qualify even if you receive dental benefits through certain government social programs. If you currently have dental insurance, do not cancel it, even if you think you’ll qualify. Opting out of available insurance makes you ineligible for the CDCP

How to Use the CDCP at Dental Station

It can take up to three months for Service Canada to process your application. We recommend applying as soon as possible by visiting www.canada.ca/Dental or calling 1-833-537-4342.

Once your application is approved, you’ll receive a welcome kit and CDCP card from Sun Life, the program’s administrator. Please bring your card with you when booking your appointment with us.

Please note: The CDCP follows its own fee guide. If Dental Station’s fees are higher than what the plan covers, you will be responsible for the difference. You will also be responsible for any co-payments required by the plan based on your income level.
